pres-enartes-2017

This 9th edition of the annual ENARTES Performing Arts Meeting is a unique opportunity to get to know, in a short period of time, the most relevant and compelling Mexican contemporary performing artists and the work that they are producing in Mexico today. ENARTES also offers a platform for Mexican artists to show their work to national and international programmers and cultural workers as well as to generate opportunities for their work to be presented nationally and internationally.
This international forum dedicated to fostering long-term relationships, collaborative networks, interdisciplinary dialogue and artistic practice for artists, presenters, programmers, cultural workers and specialists in the performing arts is organized by the Secretaría de Cultura (Ministry of Culture of Mexico) in collaboration with FONCA.

Since it was founded in 1989, the National Fund for Culture and the Arts (FONCA) has supported Mexico’s artistic community by providing grants for the creation, development, completion, production and promotion of innovative performing arts projects.
ENARTES was designed and first held in 2003 by FONCA to offer greater visibility for Mexican groups and soloists in the various performing arts disciplines both at home and abroad, while promoting their professionalization as cultural enterprises, encouraging dialogue and fostering touring and collaborative networks among its participants.

The 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2009 editions of ENARTES were held in Mexico City, while in 2011 and 2013 they took place in León, Guanajuato within the framework of the International Cervantino Festival.
The seventh edition of ENARTES returned to Mexico City  to venues such as the National Arts Center (CENART), El Bosque Cultural Center, UNAM University Cultural Center and the Mexico City Theater System in order to promote opportunities to forge stronger interinstitutional ties.

ENARTES 2017

This year, we have put together a varied program of almost 50 showcases– theatrical productions will be full-length works, and all of the other disciplines will be one hour in length–of Mexican contemporary and traditional dance, music and theater groups, vanguard interdisciplinary productions and new works, current technologies and artmaking, performance,  circus art, and street theater. These showcases were selected in August of this year by a jury of panelists who are well respected in the performing arts field in Mexico.

ENARTES also features panel sessions and conferences on topics related to the mobility of the performing arts and provides a forum where artists, cultural promoters, programmers, directors of festivals and cultural institutions from Mexico and other countries can engage in dialogue to generate, produce and tour work.

Discussions dedicated to deepening how we support, nurture, produce, and facilitate artistry for our audiences and communities will also be a key aspect of the conferences and panels.
ENARTES will also include, as in years past, speed meetings designed to generate ideas, identify and commission projects, and enhance touring opportunities for artistic representatives, artists, programmers, and other professionals of the performing arts industry.

The ENARTES 2017 team looks forward to seeing you in Mexico City, December 4-8.
